Value investing
Dec 14, 2007
You may not get fabulously rich, by following the value type of investing, but you will never go bankrupt.
I read this week that of all funds in the 2000/2002 market recession, in the USA, 70% lost money. This was also evident in Hong Kong where almost all funds had gone backwards, and most people tended to blame the market although the falls were distinctly the fault of the managers.
Yet at that time those funds that were run on value terms, or following the fundamental principal of investment, 80% showed that they were still making gains. I don’t know how the other 20% actually lost money, but I presume that they were biting the candle at both ends, to mix a few metaphors, and salting their funds with a sprinkling of concept stocks.
